Hello healthy...
...meet delicious
I’ve always been considered a health nut. The “healthy” type that only buys fat-free products and believed you have to get to the gym at least five days a week kinda thinking. I was on the frontlines of the “move more, eat less” and “low-fat is best” movements. Heck, I even mastered a fat-free cheesecake!
At the end of 2015, our family moved to Johannesburg, and I stayed at home, to study further and be with my kids. Little did I know it would be the catalyst for true health and an exciting career. Having free time during the mornings, I did refresher courses in nutrition and became interested in the Ketogenic Diet. I delved deep into the ketogenic, low-carb diets and followed the work of some of the most prominent people in this arena. If you know anything about ketogenic, low carb, high-fat diets, you’ll know the names Dr Dominic D’Agostino, Rhonda Patrick, Patricia Daily, Jimmy Moore, Dr Jason Fung, Prof Tim Noakes, Drs. Stephen Phinney and Jeff Volek, and the list goes on.
180-Degree Turn from Low Fat
Switching to a diet with 75% of your calories from fat, was a huge mind-shift for someone that took pride in pushing a trolley filled with low-fat and fat-free foods through the grocery store. Geared with the knowledge, I experimented with our family. I discovered I liked cooking with heavy cream and butter, and that I didn’t have to give up chocolate entirely.
I’ve taken my health to the next level, physically and mentally. I’m in better shape now compared to my twenties, and it’s easier to maintain my weight now than ever before. If you’re a woman, you’ll know that weight management does not get easier as we age. I have too much energy for a 40-year-old, and my moods are always stable. My husband is a busy executive and practices Intermittent Fasting on most days. Practising IF gives him the freedom from having to eat every few hours and still have sustained energy levels throughout the day. The best part about following a ketogenic lifestyle is the difference I’m making in my children’s future.
I believe there is no one-size-fits-all, and that is why I work with people on an individual basis. My nutrition philosophy centres around The Ketogenic Diet, and Low-carb, high-fat principles. I include dietary strategies to lower insulin, intermittent fasting, eating whole, unrefined foods, cutting back on refined grains, sugars, and increasing natural, healthy fats. Through personalised care and advice, I help my clients have a better understanding that food can either help them reach their goals or prevent them from making progress.
It is my greatest desire to help people discover the truth about health and wellbeing. No matter where you are in your journey, you can benefit from the support and encouragement of working with me. I am here to support your progress, celebrate your successes, and encourage you when obstacles arise.
